RE: LOS ANGELES NATIONAL IMPEACHMENT CENTER
LANIC to Present Impeachment Signature Volumes to City of Los Angeles
Los Angeles County, CA : At 10:00 AM, December__, 2007, The Los Angeles National Impeachment Center (LANIC) will approach LA City Council, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other congressional leaders with a volume of over 6,000 handwritten Los Angeles residents' signatures and addresses for a citywide impeachment resolution of Vice President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
The signatures, collected entirely by over 160 volunteers, support a LA City resolution with intent to call forth impeachment proceedings. The LA resolution is one among several local impeachment resolutions in progress. Councilman Bill Rosendahl has repeatedly indicated that he will introduce an impeachment resolution if at least one additional city council member cosponsors such a resolution with him.
Upon its passage, Los Angeles would be the third local city in 3 months to pass similar resolutions, following San Fernando Valley and the City of West Hollywood. Â Santa Monica , Culver City and other local cities are close to passing similar resolutions. LANIC's process to demand impeachment on behalf of the City of Los Angeles began July 4th 2007 , after other organized efforts to impeach the current administration were rebuffed at the congressional level.
"The U.S. Congress has been derelict in complying with its constitutional duties and obligations. On September 15, 2007, there was a large march and civil disobedience action in Washington , D.C. for peace and impeachment. LANIC and impeachment groups across the country are now ready to hold Congress in contempt of the citizens of the United States of America," says Peter Thottam, LANIC's founder.
LANIC volunteers and others organizing support of this effort found emphatic local support was the norm in any area of Los Angeles that over 160 volunteers approached to gather signatures. While local public endorsement of impeachment has been consistent, some local leaders have insisted that impeachment is not a local issue. Efforts to gather and document local support of impeachment are ongoing in Santa Monica and Culver City .
The future hopes of petitioners and volunteers in these processes ride on the competent recognition of taxpayer demands for executive impeachment proceedings by local public officials.
The following public officials will be presented with LANIC's public signature volumes and corresponding demands for national impeachment proceedings at Los Angeles City Hall , 10-26-07.

To Do: Waxman is one of the most progressive and activist congressional Democrats, period. Please call Congressman Henry A.Waxman (D-30th District) and insist that he waste no time in performing his constitutional duties, uphold the law and support impeachment. Waxman's main district telephone # is (323) 651-1040. An alternate # is (818) 878-7400. Please also feel free to e-mail him through his staff aid at < Lisa.pinto@mail.house.gov>. Please also call Congressman Adam Schiff (D-29th District) at (626) 304-2727 and/or email him at  "Adam Schiff" < ADAM.SCHIFF@mail.house.gov>.  Â
(1) Timing -- Waxman said that he didn't think Impeachment by the House could happen until May 2008 and that a trial by the Senate would create huge political problems for the Democrats as the trial would run into the November 2008 elections thereby 'alienating' many American voters much like the impeachment of Clinton -- Waxman claimed -- alienated many voters from Republicans;(2) He did not think he had enough 'convincing' evidence' to warrant impeachment and he valued his impartiality and 'information gathering' role on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee;(3) He didn't believe the poll #s in favor of impeachment were greater than 20%;(4) He was worried about Congressional Paralysis if impeachment proceedings were initiated and accusations of 'partisanship';(5) Waxman was 'not sure' about his constitutional obligations and stated he would have to look into this (hence the faxed inquiry by us below and the request for a response);(6) He needed to consult with the Democratic Party's leadership (presumably, Pelosi and Clinton's campaign team). Â

15 LANIC representatives and affiliate members met with  Congressman Henry Waxman today (with over 50 pro-Impeachment demonstrators rallying for 2 hours in support outside). We are asking everyone to call his office and request that Congressman Waxman endorse H Res 333.Â
Â

Congressman Waxman needs to be persuaded that there is broad-based public support for Impeachment and that the public wants this now.
Â

August 7 - 50 pro-Impeachment demonstrators outside Waxman's office from 4 pm to 6 pm (only a day's advance notice)
Â
Â
Congressman Waxman took our materials under submissions and asked that LANIC representatives keep his office apprised of developments. Waxman -- as with Congressional representatives such as Adam Schiff, Brad Sherman and Linda Sanchez -- is on the fence and truly needs to hear regularly from community activists. Please also write him at lisa.pinto@mail.house.gov (chief legislative aid).
AS OF November 23, 2007 : 11,432 Los Angeles' residents handwritten signatures and verifiable addresses gathered! Our Original Goal: 5,000
signatures before September 15th! Please download petitions (tabs 1 & 2) and mail your signed petitions to 8124 W. 3rd Street, #216, Los Angeles, CAÂ 90048.
